So, you booked your session, now what?
I am excited to capture you and your loved one. Custom photography is unique because it not only captures what you look like at a certain point in time, it captures who you are. My goal is to capture honest photos of you and your other half. I take a documentary approach to photography and use my understanding of my equipment and natural light to create images that will become works of art that you can hang in your home and pass down for generations. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your session with me.
things you should know about your session.
I always say the first 15 minutes are awkward, and that's okay ( it's normal I promise!) Once we get to our general location I will immediately start capturing a few photos, please pay no mind to this, I am generally getting my camera settings ready, checking the light and any distractions that may be in/around the area if by chance I get a great shot of you and your partner being yourselves then that's only an added bonus. I will guide you through some basic posing and just have you interact with each other and get you both comfortable with me and being in front of the camera. I rarely capture any couples stiffly posed with everyone looking and smiling, to me it looks fake and forced. Instead, my goal is to capture the true connection between you two. I'll usually ask you to cuddle, smell, kiss, or touch each other's hair/face, I want to make sure you feel comfortable and not self-conscious. I will instruct you to stand in a general position and say things along the lines of "eskimo kiss, sniff her ear, lean in and give her a raspberry on her neck" or "whisper something silly in her ear" and the results are genuine laughs, love, and fun! I really encourage you to be intimate and bring the heat..
Never stress about how your session will go, that is my job. I want you to focus strongly on your feeling with your significate other and the love between the two of you. Do something before our session to relax and get comfortable with each other, most of the time it's much needed. We all get so lost in our day to day lives that we often times forget to take a second to relax and enjoy this beautiful life we are creating and living together. I always recommend listening to "your song" in the car on the way to your session, put your phones away, go for a nature walk, or even arrive at the location a little early and get comfortable with the soundings.
I want you to enjoy this time together , as if it were an evening at the park. Nothing about this experience should stress you out, if you feel stressed TALK TO ME I will gladly help you through it.
What will my session be like?
Fun, intimite, relaxed. I will pull you out of your comfort zone if it's the last thing I have to do! What happens behind the scenes during our session is strictly between us. I cast no judgement about anything or anyone so open up!
Location
Together we will both decide on a location that best suits you. I have many locations that I love to shoot at regularly but I am always open to new locations as well. You should choose a location that fits your style and personality. I can help you along with this decision. I am open to just about anything.
Props
I do not use props during my sessions, however if you have something in mind please let me know.
Your Significate Other
Lets face it, usually couples sessions are requested by one of you and the other is along for the ride because they love you. Usually, when it comes to kids I can handle making it fun and enjoyable, or even use some bribery. With adults, it's not nearly as easy for me to bribe them to cooperate with a sucker at the end of our session, HA! So this part is on you, compromise, talk it out, they're doing something you want and enjoy maybe you can repay them by doing something they enjoy at a later date.
